How to import your Fortmatic wallet to your MetaMask account?
This article will help you to import your existing Fortmatic wallet to your MetaMask account. For this, we will take into account that you already have an open Fortmatic and MetaMask wallet.
You will need to follow these easy step-by-step instructions.
Go to Fortmatic page and click on the “Wallet” on the menu at your top right. Log in to your account using your email, password, and your 2FA if you have set it up.
Once you log in, you can click on “Settings” and then click on “Export Private Key”. They will ask you if you want to proceed and why you are doing that. They ask because once you export your private key you won’t be able to use it again with Fortmatic. You will have to create a new one.
After answering the questions, Fortmatic will give you your private key in an encrypted document in a JSON file (.json). You will find your file in your “Downloads” folder.
Important: You will have to create a password for this file. Don’t forget it because you will need it in MetaMask.
In your browser, open MetaMask extension and log in. Click on your profile logo in the top right and then click on “Import Account”.
After clicking there, you will be in the “Import” tab, and in “Select Type” select JSON File. You will see that you can import an account if you have the private key but in this case, we are doing it with the .json file.
Choose the file that should be in your “Downloads” folder and then type the password you previously set up in Fortmatic before downloading the JSON file.
You are done! You will see your new import account and will be able to send the ETH you have to your main MetaMask account or just keep it there.
You will be able to easily switch accounts by clicking the profile logo on the top right.
I hope it has been helpful and doesn't hesitate to comment if you have any questions or anything to add!
