How to be part of the Local Guides Programme — From Google

Everything starts in 2014, I was at work on a summer day, which means a not very productive day, while looking at Google+, I came across a post that talks about Google City Expert. The first thing that takes my attention was that they were throwing a party for the users who write reviews.

My first reflex was to click on the link and start reading a little bit more about the programme. I subscribed the same day and then I was writing reviews of the places I went.

I progressed quite quickly and rose from level to level until I was able to attend the events. My first event was at Clint, really cool hipster coffee shop. ⇟

First event with Google City Expert

After more a less 2 years of Google City Expert, Google wants to extend the programme and reach more people in the world. That’s was the start of the new programme call Local Guides.

Local Guides is a global community of users who enjoy writing reviews, sharing photos, answering questions, adding or editing places, and checking information on Google Maps. Millions of Internet users rely on contributions like yours to choose where to go and what to do.

I share with you the official video right here ⇟ who explains the programme.

Sign up with your Google Account and select your current location. On Google Maps, for every place you photograph, add or modify, or provide additional information or write a review, you earn points for a reward.

It’s really easy to win points. Some actions give more points than others, but you will easily reach level 3 in some days.

I share with you a table with the contributions and the points you will have by doing this action.

Points

When I start, the table points was different and it takes more time to reach higher levels. Google asked you to write 50 reviews to be considered as Google City Expert and continue to be active for 5 months. I remember that the programme was only available in some big cities around the world, but now you can be a Local Guide from any location.

You have 10 levels, and honestly, to reach level 8 it’s quite hard but not impossible. The real milestone is
